Visual Effects Paradiso - The Past, Present, & Future of Visual Effects Story Telling. Given by, Michael Fink (Academy Award Winner for VFX in Golden Compass, Avatar, Tron:Legacy, Sucker Punch, Tree of Life)
We will look at the broad canvas of Western art, photography, and film through the eyes of a visual effects filmmaker. From wall paintings in Herculaneum to the latest visual effects scenes in contemporary film, we will examine how artists have used technology to create new realities.
Did anti-aliasing start with Da Vinci? Ray-tracing with Van Eyck? What links the work of Velasquez and Zemeckis? De La Tour and Fincher? Da Vinci and Cameron? If Vermeer were alive today, would he be a matte artist at ILM? Would Caravaggio be an animator at Pixar? Who created the very first visual effects shot and how was it done? And was it really Edison or was it Massacio that created it? These and more questions will be discussed in Visual Effect Paradiso.
In addition, Michael Fink will show selected shots from his long career, with an inside look into how these shots were achieved.
