LOS ANGELES (September 24, 2012) – “ESCTASY,” the sequel to Irvine Welsh’s “TRAINSPOTTING”, is among many films to be featured at this year’s Lady Filmmaker’s Film, Music, and Art Festival, taking place at the Writer’s Guild Theater in Beverly Hills, September 28-30th. The film stars Billy Boyd, Adam Sinclair, and Kristin Kreuk. Along with “ECSTASY,” screening at the fest are Bryce Dallas Howard & Ron Howard’s film ”WHEN YOU FIND ME”, two films by Olivia Wilde - documentary “BASEBALL IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA” which she produced, and “FREE HUGS” which Wilde directed and stars with Justin Long. Also highlighted are “COMMERCE” starring well-known actors Joel Gretsch and Annabeth Gish, and “A SUNNY MORNING” starring Charlie Cox & Sophia Myles.
Special industry speakers confirmed so far are Academy Award Winner Michael L Fink (Golden Compass, Avatar, Tron: Legacy), Joyce Cox (Avatar, Dark Knight, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Men In Black III), Max Landis (Chronicle, Good Time Gang), Amy Vincent, ASC (Hustle & Flow, Eve’s Bayou, Black Snake Moan), Pam Dixon, President of CSA (Green Lantern, Barnery’s Version, Mask of Zorro), and Danny Sussman, Talent Manager from Brillstein Entertainment Partners are just a few of the many top industry leaders participating.
We are honoring Producer Joyce Cox with the 2012 Trailblazer Award and Cinematographer Amy Vincent, ASC with the 2012 Moving Image Award. They will both be on the panel on the “Crossroads of Arts & Commerce in Studio Filmmaking” September 30th. Last year we had Amber Heard, Diablo Cody and Pam Dixon as our featured guests!
This year the festival will screen 51 films from various countries including Japan, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Finland, UK, France, and Spain. In the past, Lady Filmmaker’s Film Festival had screened films from over 18 countries. 2009 - 2011 selected films were made by or showcased up-and-coming as well as celebrity filmmakers and actors including Courtney Cox, Laura Dern, Danny Glover, Glenn Close, James Brolin, John Mahoney, Lilli Taylor, Barrie Osborne, David Lynch, Clancy Brown, Mel Rodriguez and Stephen Gyllenhaal, just to name a few.... Regardless of the films selected, one thing is certain -- this festival will highlight a variety of cultures and world views.
Lady Filmmakers Film Festival recognizes and celebrates the tremendous contribution of women to film and importance in the collaborative spirit amongst men and women,” says Viayra. The primary goal of the festival is to screen entertaining independent international films to show people that they can enjoy Indie films just as much as the big blockbusters. The fest promotes artists and musicians, and recognizes and empowers lady filmmakers, artists, and musicians from all ethnic, religious, and LGBT communities. To qualify for the festival, films must have at least one woman in the role of writer, director, cinematographer, producer, editor, or production designer. Musical Acts are primarily comprised of women and artwork must be by or about women or families.
“This is a film, music, and art festival unlike any other in LA. Independent films from all over the world will be featured at the 4th Annual Lady Filmmakers Film Festival,” says Patricia DiSalvo Viayra, the festival’s Director and Founder. “The festival promotes short and feature movies made by ladies by showcasing and celebrating the viability of films by lady filmmakers, artists, musicians and the men who collaborate with them.”
In addition to the films, the Festival presents eight workshops & Industry panels, eight film programs, three parties, two art show events, and two musical groups. We have three artists who will be exhibiting for the first time in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills and we are thrilled to show their works. “We have many accomplished filmmakers & artists involved this year,” Viayra says.
