Synopsis:
'Homecoming' is a short film about Ibrahim, a Nigerian man, and his American wife, Lily. After his sister's death, Ibrahim and Lily take in her son, Yakubu, but because of the tragedy of losing his mother and being uprooted, he chooses to only speak in Hausa (a northern Nigerian language) even though he can speak English fluently, thus alienating Lily.
Biography:
Miriam Agwai: Director, Writer, Producer Miriam Agwai is a Nigerian filmmaker currently living in New York City. Born in Kaduna State, Nigeria, Miriam was raised in Plateau State, Nigeria, Harare, Zimbabwe and Yonkers, New York. As a result, she has a hodgepodge accent, an interest in learning as many languages as humanly possible and a desire to tell stories about people you don't typically hear about. Derek Aspenberg: Cinematographer/DP Derek Aspenberg lives in Brooklyn, NY with his lady and his dog. He is a director and cinematographer geared towards original and exciting projects. Kim Rodrigues: Lead Actor Kim Rodrigues is from Atlanta, Georgia and has studied at Ithaca College, The Neighborhood Playhouse and is a graduate of The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. Film Credits include SVA theis Homecoming and Shooting Stars Production Nice Guys. Theatre Credits include Our Town, Marie and Bruce and Sylvia. Jahmari Josiah: Lead Actor Jahmari is currently a 6th year music student of Massimiliano Facchini & Claudette Munne of Belle Arti Center for the Arts and has performed at Flushing Town Hall for year end recitals. He also studied Jazz Hip Hop dance and performed at year end recitals at Fancy Feet Dance Company for 3 years. His credits include a print job for Pearson Learning Textbook, Voice Overs for Word World on PBS and the Role of Yakubu in 'Homecoming'. Jahmari enjoys singing, reading and he loves to travel.
