Daniela Schrier Kafshi’s earliest film memory goes back to age five: A dark theater, a massive screen and a little boy running around the Forbidden City. Kafshi’s still not sure what her family was thinking taking such a wee-thing to Bertolucci’s ‘The Last Emperor,’ but it struck a cord in her that has vibrated ever since. In 2011, Kafshi moved back to her hometown of NYC after years away, in order to make movies. Since then she’s done just about everything on set. Powdered the shine off an actor’s forehead? Check. Shot listed a film with a DP? Check. Set lights and c-stands and organized craft tables? Check, check and check. Her dedication has made her a valuable producer. She produced ‘Fall to Rise,’ a feature film currently winning awards on the festival circuit; just wrapped production on a film directed by Michael Walker; and is in pre-production on a thriller starring Patricia Arquette, Betsy Brandt, Peter Facinnelli and Jason Issacs. But Kafshi’s greatest accomplishment is ‘The Showdown,’ a short film she wrote and directed that recently premiered before an audience of 800 and is scheduled to screen in Hollywood’s famous Chinese Theatre. Currently, she is busy writing two feature films. While wildly different, they both focus on family and personal passion with a little bit of the surreal mixed in for good measure.
